and healthy and sustainable businesses to create a better world for families worldwide.  They donate 2% of our profits to causes that support maternal and children’s health worldwide.
Yesterday, Mother’s Day, Mindful Mama for natural parenting, launched a video series and art/photo/essay contest that engages mothers across the country in a dialogue about childbirth and the transformation of new motherhood. In search of a deeper understanding of birth in the United States, Mindful Mama has spent the past two months interviewing these top experts and created a series of more than 50 short video clips. Mindful Mama invites mothers everywhere to watch these videos at and share their own personal wisdom and stories, answering the question, “How has becoming a parent transformed you?”

My Motherload Contest by Frigidaire

How often do you have the time to do something for yourself? If you’re like most moms, the answer is almost never. As Moms, we’re proud of everything we’re able to do for our families, but we think you’ll agree that a little “me time” goes a long way! Luckily, there’s a company out there who understands a mom’s desire to spend less time doing routine housework and more time doing what we love. Frigidaire, the appliance brand known for their legendary reliability, is unveiling 250 new appliances designed with specific time-saving features to give you more time for YOUR time.

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that research shows that Moms are logging more overtime than most Americans. In fact, Frigidaire’s recently released “Motherload Index” revealed that moms spend most of their waking lives – 200 hours each month – doing the activities they least enjoy rather than the things they love.

With their new line of appliances, Frigidaire is aiming to free up some newfound “me time” for Moms and they want to know what you’ll do with it! By visiting and clicking on “my motherload”, you can share the five things that you would do with an extra hour in your day for a chance to win an entire suite of the new time-saving Frigidaire appliances.

The NEW Frigidaire kitchen and laundry collections feature high-performing, easy-to-use appliances with style and design elements that don’t just look great, but help the appliances perform better and give you better results.  All products – with their functional design and uncomplicated technology – have been built to deliver one primary thing: more time for mom. Preacher Creature Book Review and Giveaway

Mike Thaler has written more than 200 books for children, including Scholastic’s bestselling “Black Lagoon” series, which introduced “monster teacher” Mrs Green in The Teacher from the Black Lagoon 20 years ago.

Mike is also the creator of “The Letterman” from PBS’ longtime educational show “Electric Company”. Mr Thaler is known as “America’s Riddle King” and travels to classrooms worldwide helping children and teachers create their own stories riddles and books.

Eleven years ago, at age 60, Thaler devoted his life to Jesus Christ and he says, “life has gone from black and white to glorious Technicolor.” Today he uses his imaginative storytelling and passion for Christ in his new series “Tales from the Back Pew”. He says it’s “Black Lagoon goes to church.” These books are published by ZonderKids and are for ages 6-9.

I have read one book in the series, Preacher Creature Strikes on Sunday, and I have shared it with a few children of varying ages. This is a great book for kids who have never been to church or who are maybe moving to a new church. Thaler does a good job of expressing a child’s fear of the unknown and what the child may have heard about church.

There are very long songs with a thousand verses, and just when you think you’re done, they go back to the beginning and start all over again. And you have to stand the whole time. It’s sort of like the Pledge of Allegiance…only longer. And then, instead of paying you for singing, they collect money.

Of course in the end the child enjoys church and can’t wait to go back next Sunday. The illustrations in the books are beautiful and imaginative. Jared Lee is the illustrator and he has worked with Thaler for over 30 years. This would be a great book for a child new to a Protestant, main stream denominational church setting, similar to what I grew up in. The children I know and shared this book with come from either an Assemblies of God or non-denominational/Pentecostal background and they were unable to relate the church experiences in this book. We all enjoyed the way the child in book shared the Old Testament stories of Moses, Noah, and Jonah.

Contest for Your Jr. Chef

PhotobucketThe Jr. Chefs of America is a cool website aimed at encouraging good nutrition in kids through cooking. My boys love to cook and they each have one night a week that they are in charge of cooking dinner. I am encouraging both of them to enter this contest. If they do, I’ll post the videos here for you to see.

Jr. Chefs of America vision to inspire a new generation of smart eaters and build parents’ confidence about their children’s’ skills in the kitchen. Featuring original webisodes, this new website is all about kids teaching kids the joy of cooking. According to Connie Liakos Evers, MS, RD, author of How to Teach Nutrition to Kids, “More than 75% of children ages 6-11 do not eat the minimum of 3 servings of vegetables or 2 servings of fruit daily.”

Jr. Chefs of America realizes that the earlier a child can learn the importance of good nutrition and portion control, the more eager and knowledgeable they will be regarding eating healthy. In the site’s original webisodes, kids are teaching their young audiences about kitchen safety, cooking healthy, and responsible meal possibilities. Using easy-to-follow instructions, Jr. Chefs of America even contains kid-friendly recipes for kids to try using the website’s safe, one-on-one environment.

“Obese children and adolescents are more likely to become obese as adults,” from  the New England Journal of Medicine. With childhood obesity reaching epic numbers, it is important for kids to learn the guidelines of healthy eating.  Instead of being pressured by their parents, this website brings the information to them by their peers.

Currently, Jr. Chefs of America is looking for more chefs to join their team.  Check out the details of the Webisode Cooking Contest:
–       Open to kids 10 – 18 years old
