The home verses hospital birth debate still continues. With supporters on both sides showing facts, figures, and studies proving how each claims to be the safest method it can get a little aggressive. From the well known “Dr.” Amy, known mostly for trolling and creating “proof” writing on the side of hospitals to the anti-Western medicine hippies and fundamentalist Christians on the home birth side the debate rages fairly loudly.
Luckily most people lie somewhere in the middle. They may have opinions on where to give birth, but they are often respectful about them. Or, at least, not always on the attack. Unfortunately there are some who like to stir up trouble among the rational members of each side. Dr. Phil is one of those people. Right now Dr. Phil is asking for people to speak up on their side of the home/hospital birth debate. I can’t beg you strongly enough to just ignore him.
Dr. Phil has grown a reputation for drumming up drama, and ratings, with segments such as these. Careful editing, putting guests on the defensive, and creating problems that weren’t there have been shown time and time again to be his tactics when he covers an issue he personally disagrees with. His episodes on homeschooling and breastfeeding are just two examples of this.
I say we should just ignore Dr. Phil. Refuse to go on his show, refuse to answer his questions, and refuse to be drug into a debate he has already written the outcome of before it’s ever happened. The less we fight about the stronger we can be united about giving mothers, all mothers, a choice of their own.
