Our Heroes
My heroes left on a cold, dark night
A night that seemed unreal in dawn’s near light
In tents our heroes watched the days go by
While overhead they watched the Air Force fly
And when our heroes’ time grew near
They moved out, our loved ones dear
And when the time came to prove their self-worth
Our gallant soldiers went bravely forth
And when the time comes they’ll march home
With their heads held high
And we’ll mourn the loss of each precious life
Each of whom so bravely died
For the American Spirit, to keep alive
So let us pay due respect to our beloved soldiers
Those who fought, and those who died
And last, but not least, let us thank God
For the wisdom that got us through.
-written by a soldier’s daughter
I found this in an old newspaper clipping (The Dragoon, March 1991) this morning. It was “Dedicated to the soldiers of 2nd ACR who will always be heroes in my heart.” by the fourteen year old daughter of a soldier.
Make sure you find a soldier or a soldier’s wife and thank them today. No matter what your views on foreign policy, these people are sacrificing more than most people understand. On that note, I’m off to spend today with Honored Friend and her children while Soldier Boy is overseas.
