This morning as I was catching up on local news in the living room, I overheard Trooper talking to God in the kitchen (when I say ‘talking’, I mean at the top of his lungs). It went something like this:
I wuv you, God! You ahr GWATE and I juss wuv you! And I’m soooo pwoud of you! I know that Mommy’s not weaw-wy da big boss. You ahr!
There was more, but my heart melted to hear that last bit. I am teaching my children a lesson (quite unintentionally) that no one else can. God is the Big Boss, even of the boss. What better legacy can we leave than that our children recognize us as human, prone to mistakes, willing to apologize, and ultimately held accountable for our actions and our words? In short, our children need to know that even grown ups are subject to a higher power.
