We all know that reading is important, but it seems that not all of us are doing it. According to a recent poll 1 in 4 adults read no books at all last year. That number is shocking, especially to a book lover such as myself. With more and more people turning to the television and the internet to inform and entertain them, reading books seems to be a wilting pasttime. This is a sad thought considering how important reading is.
Maybe the drop in reading comes from childhood? A U.S. professor says parents should rethink the way they read to their children, replacing sleepy bedtime stories with interaction. One person in the pool did mention getting sleep when he reads. Perhaps growing up and equating reading with bedtime diminished a person’s enjoyment. Try reading at times other than just bed time, and make the stories lively and entertaining. Hopefully you’ll see a lifelong reader emerge.

Oh my goodness, that is so not the problem around here! We seem to read constantly! We have made a point to have books around us, to read in front of our kids, and to encourage our kids as much as we can to read themselves. Now if we could just build a library for all these books…
