Baby Names

babies.jpgOne of the great parts about being pregnant is coming up with a name for baby.  This is something girls think about even at a young age.  I bet 8 out of 10 girls ages 15 and up could tell you what they want to name their future babies.

If you can get in-tune with your spouse, picking out a name together can be really fun.  I remember both times I was pregnant my husband and I would plan a date night towards the end of the pregnancy and go grab a coffee at Starbucks (decaf of course) and head to Barnes and Noble to look at baby name books.  We could sit there for hours arguing, eh hm, debating on names.  I ended up naming our first child and he picked the name for our second.  We now have a Lillian and a Lucy.

There are lots of fun ways to research baby names through books and websites.  You can even create your own baby name poll on Baby Center and have your friends and family vote on the names you are considering.  I only recommend this option for those women who are self-confident enough to deal with their family and friend’s brutually honest opinions.

From classic to trendy the options are endless.  According to the Social Security Administration the top 10 girl names in the country at present are:

  1. Emily
  2. Emma
  3. Madison
  4. Abigail
  5. Olivia
  6. Isabella
  7. Hannah
  8. Samantha
  9. Ava
  10. Ashley

For boys the list is:

  1. Jacob
  2. Michael
  3. Joshua
  4. Matthew
  5. Ethan
  6. Andrew
  7. Daniel
  8. Anthony
  9. Christopher
  10. Joseph

For those parents who choose to take the unique name path, Parenting website has given some ideas categorized into groups such as “Nature” names–River, Willow, Stone, Sky or ”Comfy” names–Annie, Jack, Joe, Daisy or “Biblical” names–Aaron, Benjamin, Eve, Hannah or of course “Classic” names–Caroline, Charles, Christopher, Grace.

There are so many things to think about when choosing a name for your baby such as how it sounds with your last name, the meaning of the name, the spelling of the name, and so on.  Have fun picking your babies’ name and make sure it is something you and your child can be happy living with for a lifetime.
