I have been looking around for some new things to do with the kids. I am especially interested in fun things we can do together that incorporate our Christian faith. My kids are like most others and enjoy books, movies, computer games, outdoor activities, etc. and I started thinking, “How can I use these areas of entertainment in their life and include Jesus?”
Kids brains are like sponges when they are young and they are so eager and ready to learn. Just by watching Signing Time which is a DVD series that teaches sign language my kids have picked up hundreds of words from the language. They both can sing the theme songs to most of the cartoons on television and recite from memory lots of the children’s books we own so why not fill their heads as much as possible with Bible stories and the ways of Jesus?
What got me thinking more about this was when I set my daughter up to play some Sesame Street counting game on the computer at my mom’s house and then left the room for a little bit. When I came back my mom (she’s a good grandma) had her playing a David and Goliath game. Lilly was David and was flinging rocks at the giant until he came toppling down. She was giggling and having a great time AND learning about the Bible. I was a little suprised when I started researching and found that there really is good stuff out there that isn’t cheesy! Check out Christian Computer Games to see find the David and Goliath game.
Another activity I found on PrayKids was taking a “prayer walk” with your kids. You can bring bags for you kids and do a nature walk collecting different and interesting things as you go and also praying along the way. Show your kids how to pray for your neighbors as you walk by their houses or how to thank God for the pretty leaves and flowers as you put them in your bags. It’s simple but full of purpose.
You can even get your babies involved. One of my favorite video series is the Praise Baby series. My girls as infants were learning such great praise and worship songs and the videos really held their interest. The quality of these shows is great.
I know there are many more great ways to teach your kids about Christ and how much He loves them. I’d love to hear ways that you do this at your house.

We LOVE Signing Time at our house!!!! I now give it as a baby gift!!!! I think I might have to check out the baby praise…my girls LOVE to sing and dance!!! Thanks!!! Oh and 1 really simple thing to teach young kids about Christ is having a Nativity set that is kid safe, we leave ours out ALL the time and let the girls play with it. That way we can talk about baby Jesus all year.
Ok, I’m back…I checked out babypraise and bought it…then I went to a favorite kid activity site…dltk.com…they have a ton of great christian activities and lessons plus they have great make at home stuff for birthday parties. If you havn’t been there before you should check it out.
Thanks for the tip! I’ll check it out with y 5-year old!!
