Kids and Colds

kidscolds.jpgIt’s that time of year again. Sniffles, coughs, runny noses, fevers, and CRANKY kids. As much as I love the changing of the seasons, I despise the allergies and sicknesses that go with it. According to Kids Health colds are the number one reason that kids stay home from school. And don’t you just love those parents who bring their sick kids out to cough all over your kids?

I almost feel like not letting my 2 year old and 5 year old leave the house from November-March! Obviously that isn’t a reality since I do want my children to have a life and also since I would like to keep my sanity so here are a few great ways to cut-down on the colds this season:

  • WASH HANDS, WASH HANDS, and then WASH HANDS! I keep a bottle of waterless hand sanitizer in my purse and have my kids use it throughout the day especially before eating.
  • Pump your kids full of good foods to help their immune systems fight germs and viruses. My kids take extra Vitamin C this time of year.
  • Make sure your little ones are getting enough sleep. Being overtired is one of the main ways they can get run down and be more prone to catching a cold.

I’m not a doctor but I do know what seems to work for us. What other ways can we keep our kids from getting sick this fall? I heard some great news today. Meijer Grocery Store is giving out FREE ANTIBIOTICS (at least in Northern Kentucky). All you have to do is bring in your prescription. Sounds good to me!
